Resources for Resilience

In this section you’ll find advice and information about how to survive difficult economic circumstances. This isn’t meant to be an apologia for our increasingly exploitative economic system. We need improved regulations and safety nets yesterday—make that decades ago—but it’s very difficult to fight for systemic change when you (or the people who depend on you) are worried about basic necessities.

The first document is what changes you can make if a boycott is a luxury you literally can’t afford. The philosophy here is that every little bit helps, and you don’t need to perform pure, perfect actions to make a difference. Too often, the onus of activism is on those who can least afford it—and because they intimately understand why change is needed, they suffer the added stress and shame of not being able to live up to their ideals. Just one more way this system chips away at us.

The next documents are what I call “Emergency Measures”. In a functional system, you would not have to be clever about food or other necessities. This isn’t a guide for how to live, it’s a guide for how to survive. Bootstraps is not a solution to the calamity so many of us live in. Each of the guides has a different perspective; I hope one or a combination of them will be helpful.
